Leeds is offering Covid-19 testing to Third Sector staff across Health and Social care services through the Temple Green site (J45 MI) and a number of other sites. This has now been opened up to include informal carers and volunteers.

Essential workers can apply for a coronavirus test online here. Guidance on coronavirus testing, including who is eligible for a test, how to get tested and the different types of test available can be viewed here.

Following the Government’s announcement about extending COVID-19 testing, the below communication brief was shared by the Leeds CCG. Forum Central has been assured that the testing offer remains open to Third Sector staff across Health and Care services in Leeds, and the CCG Booking service is still operating as a back up for booking – the email is [email protected].

An online scheme that sources PPE for charities and organisations in the UK in urgent need is available here. Forum Central is not endorsing the service, but sharing as a potential route to accessing PPE for our member organisations.

24th April: Update from Leeds CCG

There is now a national booking service for Employers and an Employee self-referral route now open to book a test. There has been huge demand this morning as it has been opened up to all key workers and the portal for Employee self-referral has currently been closed. Should you as an individual employer wish to seek access and book staff yourself please do and information is contained in point one below of how to do this. As a backup for booking we will keep our CCG booking service going at present for anyone having difficulty and needs to get a staff member a test as we recognise that the new system is experiencing lots of pressure. We can also sign post staff to how to get a test for a child at the LTHT testing facility should they need it.

Across West Yorkshire and Harrogate we have been scaling up our coronavirus testing capacity to protect the vulnerable, support keyworkers, and ultimately save lives. Alongside local testing centres, thousands of keyworker tests are available at the West Yorkshire site of the national keyworker testing programme at Temple Green in Leeds, and its four satellites services at Halifax, Huddersfield, Keighley and Wakefield.

Testing gives people the information they need – whether to continue their isolation and protect the vulnerable and health and care services, and or whether they can go back to work and help get the country moving again.

Under the Government’s five-pillar strategy, swab testing has been offered to different groups in a phased approach, initially prioritising NHS workers, then the broader public services, with the aim that all keyworkers who need a test will be able to have one. Testing helps the government and scientists understand the current spread of the virus and plan how to manage the pandemic moving forwards.

To support this a broad range of testing methods are being rolled-out to increase accessibility, including home testing kits and mobile testing sites.

For West Yorkshire and Harrogate this will mean:

  • Employers of keyworkers can register and refer self-isolating staff.  To obtain a login, employers should email [email protected]with two email addresses that will primarily be used to load essential worker contact details.
  • Key workers will be able to book an appointment themselves directly by visiting https://self-referral.test-for-coronavirus.service.gov.uk/If keyworkers are too unwell to travel to a test centre they can use this portal to request a home testing kit between 8 am and 8pm, initially the availability of these kits will be limited. More will become available soon.
  • The aim is that most people should not have to drive for more than 45 minutes to get to a testing site.

It’s important to note that the automated booking process is only for the Temple Green site in Leeds, for those over 18 years, with the intention of testing household member children five years and over in the near future.

17th April: COVID-19 Testing Available for Third Sector H&C staff with symptoms

Leeds is now able to offer Covid-19 testing to Third Sector staff across Health and Social care services through the Temple Green site (J45 MI). It is a large site with capacity to deliver 400 tests a day.

The criteria for testing is: the member of staff, or one of their family members, must be self-isolating and must have symptoms. Staff will be turned away from the site if they do not have symptoms.

Staff need to be booking in for a test as soon as they go off work with symptoms as testing should ideally be done in the first 3 days, and at the most, 5 days. The turnaround from the labs is up to 72 hours and results are made available to the staff member via text/e-mail.

To book, please e-mail staff names and contact telephone numbers to the email address below and a member of the team will call them back, go through the criteria, give them all the information they need and book them a slot: [email protected].

If the staff member is isolating due to a child being symptomatic, there is a small amount of capacity at LTHT to offer testing of those children. Please again email the staff member’s details to the e-mail address and you will receive a call back to arrange.

Deloitte, the national company that is running the site, and the CCG have been asked about data management of staff personal details when using the test centre. Information about how data is handled can be provided.
