Leeds Organic Growers are a small local voluntary organisation committed to the promotion of:
- The Organic Growing of fruit and vegetables
- The improvement of local greenspace for the benefit of biodiversity, local wildlife and those residents around.
- Partnership working with local groups (both statutory and voluntary) including tenants groups and local schools.
We recently completed the successful renovation of a local derelict allotment site, which included the clearance of over 5 ½ acres of overgrown waste land, the construction of poly tunnels, raised beds and wildlife features.
These included natural hedgerows and wildlife ponds and led to a national award for regeneration – The Allotments Regeneration Initiative !! This area of once derelict, unused and unloved land has now been returned to the public of Leeds as a fully functioning, fully tenanted allotment site.
We have also recently completed a local primary school garden including raised beds, a polytunnel and an urban pond and we are pleased to say that its use is being built into the national curriculum so that every child in the school will have access to the garden on a regular basis.
We have extensive experience of working with a variety of statutory partners (over 10 years) and therefore have all the necessary insurances, H&S procedures, and a raft of further policies and procedures.
Our previous and current partners include Leeds University Medical School, Leeds Met Uni, Trinity & All Saints College, Leeds City Council, Local Schools (primary & secondary), the ILM (intermediary labour market), and various BME groups such as Leeds kashmiri Elders, as well as Leeds Youth offending Services, The Probation Service, Leeds MIND and many more !!
We have recently received further funding to work with future partners and develop community gardens for local groups who wish to pursue such activities and are aware of funding specifilcally for local groups – if you are interested please contact us – schools, tenant and resident groups, BAME and Adult Social Care organisations CAN ALL APPLY !
