Jez joins us as Development Worker for Learning Disabilities

/, Learning Disability/Jez joins us as Development Worker for Learning Disabilities
Jez Coram joins us from his recent role in research and development at CHANGE where he co-worked directly with people with learning disabilities on a variety of projects including improving the accessibility of NHS Business Services Authority patient facing information, reviewing and updating Macmillan easy read cancer booklets, and developing an easy read Transgender guide with Choice Support and Care Management Group.

He works with the social model of disability and through his project work understands the variety of discriminations society presents for people with learning disabilities.

Jez worked previously on project co-ordination and as multi-media designer, making issue based films and animations, designing easy read, accessible websites and working on projects such as the Transforming Care Partnership easy read Discharge Pack and the NHS Accessible Information Standard.

His role at Forum Central will be to build on the great work that has already been done and connect with member organisations, passing information between members and statutory services in a format members can understand, encouraging partnership working and helping to make sure people with learning disabilities voices, views and experiences are heard and are key to strategy and commissioning in the city.

A big part of Jez’s role is to help the member organisations of Forum Central engage with the Being Me Strategy for Leeds, developed by the Leeds Learning Disability Partnership Board.

He is really looking forward to getting out and about, meeting member organisations, and learning from members about what Forum Central can do to support you.

He brings experienced knowledge of accessible information and is looking forward to contributing to Forum Central and learning more from the experiences and knowledge of the team.

Jez will be getting in touch soon with the member organisations to introduce himself, arrange meeting up and talk about what you gain from being a member organisation and how we can support you further.

Our next learning disability member’s meet up is on the 5th November 2019 at St George’s Conference Centre, 60 Great George St, Leeds LS1 3DL, UK – 9am  – 11 am.

Please get in touch with with Jez if you would like to attend or meet up: contact jez.coram@forumcentral.org.uk or call 0113 242 1321.
