Please see below an announcement from Jon Royle Chief Executive, The Bridge Project.

It is with sadness that I am announcing the closure of the Space with effect from 17 July 2020, due to lack of future funding.

The Space was originally part of an independent charity Multiple Choice in Leeds, which transferred to Bridge in 2015 due to financial difficulties. Bridge secured its legacy, with a successful National Lottery bid and has maintained the member led ethos and founding principles.

Unfortunately, in response to the COVID pandemic the National Lottery has had to focus all its current  funding programmes on supporting charities that lack the financial resilience to weather the current crisis. As the Space is part of Bridge and we have  stable reserves, we are ineligible for further Lottery Funds at this time. Whilst we fully appreciate that the national emergency means that difficult decisions need to be made, we are incredibly disappointed for our members and staff who have created a much-loved service, that has provided vital support to 100s of people for so many years.

Our priority now is to support the transition of our members to other support services in Leeds and we are grateful to the agencies that stepped forward to offer their help at this difficult time.

The Space has proven its need, through its popularity, growth and positive outcomes year on year. It’s closure will leave a big gap in Leeds and my hope is that in the future, we will identify alternative funding sources and reopen. In the meantime, I would like to thank all of our friends, partners, funders and most of all our members and staff who have helped make the Space such a special place and transformed the lives of so many people for the better.
