To celebrate Learning Disability Week, representatives from two of our member organisations kindly spoke to us about how they have been operating through the Covid pandemic, the resilience staff and members have shown, and how they are planning to move forward.

Jez Coram, Forum Central’s¬†Development Worker, Learning Disabilities, spoke to Dean, Operations Manager at People in Action, and Steve, Family Services Manager at Leeds Mencap. You can listen to the interviews by following these links:

  • People in Action: Dean talks to us about how the organisation has innovated under this period, including using Zoom and posting ‘Boredom Buster’ packs to members, the support staff have shown to each other, and his view on what’s needed to maintain friendships over the coming weeks & months.¬†
  • Leeds Mencap: Steve talks about how Mencap’s family services have adapted and activities have been undertaken to keep in touch with families, a mindfulness course that has been put on for parents, and how they can continue to offer remote provision but also some face-to-face sessions where its safe to do so.
