Mental Capacity Act 2005 is a law in England and Wales that helps people make their own decisions and says what happens when people don’t have capacity.

The government is introducing an updated Mental Capacity Act code of Practice and replacing the current rules about deprivation of liberty DoLS with new rules called Liberty protection safeguards (LPS).

The purpose of LPS is to keep people safe and to protect their human rights to help them enjoy their liberty, privacy and family life. You can read more about this on this link

It is important that the government hears any concerns or comments you have about the changes. Have your say by answering the 25 questions in this consultation. An easy read guide to the consultation is available here.
