‘Overlooked’ is an exciting new exhibition opening at Leeds City Museum February 2023.  It is being co-curated by a group of award winning volunteers aged 14 to 24 called the Preservative Party.  They are based at Leeds City Museum, meet weekly, and are extremely passionate about creating representative and accessible displays.  This exhibition seeks to explore and empower the voices and perspectives of local people who have been overlooked.  Part of this revolves around sensory impairment.  So far a productive partnership has been formed with the Deaf Arts Forum, with 7 members of the Preservative Party being inspired to learn BSL.  This section will explore Deaf culture and history, told by the Deaf community themselves.

The Preservative Party are very keen to consult with the PSI network on how this exhibition can be made as accessible and engaging as possible – this is something that is being prioritised in all aspects of the curatorial process.  If you are interested in sharing your experiences and guidance on using accessible mediums and technologies please contact [email protected]
