Mental Health Social work support for carers in South Leeds

The South Mental health social work team are looking at improving the support they can offer to carers.

They are  focusing on people who care for someone over 65 who are either inpatients at the Mount or under care coordination from the Community Mental Health Team.

They find that carers can feel ignored, ‘in the dark’ about discharge/organisational process, and often feel that the burden of care falls on them.

The South Mental Health team want to start supporting these people earlier in their process and in less formal ways, including better use of community resources.

Initially, they are planning on offering information and advice sessions at the Mount and making links with community venues in and around Middleton.

If your organization works with carers in these areas or you would like to talk about working in partnership with the South mental health social work team, then please contact Eleri Stacy or Abigail on 0113 855 0600, or email Eleri.jones@leeds.gov.uk
