The She Writes group at Getaway Girls has launched its She Writes Too poetry book, written and designed by a group of young women who came together to attend a mental health peer support group.

Peer support works best when people with lived experience of mental health difficulties come together in a safe, supportive environment, where members feel comfortable sharing their stories and experiences, allowing a group empathy to develop. As a group they decided to use creative writing as a means by which they could share their stories, thoughts and feelings, and so set up the She Writes group.

She Writes Too is their 3rd book and is funded as part of their group work programmes for young women within Live Well Leeds. It is a collection their work, and every word written is honest and truthful.

As they were unable to host an event to launch the book as they usually would, a video featuring the girls reading their words from the book was created to mark its launch.
