NHS guidance around visitors to all hospital inpatient, diagnostic and outpatient areas has recently been updated to meet the needs of people with a mental health condition, learning disability or autism.

While hospital visiting is suspending with immediate effect and until further notice, there are a number of exceptional circumstances where one visitor, an immediate family member or carer, will be permitted to visit.

In cases where a person has a mental health condition, learning disability or autism – where not being present would cause the patient to be distressed – a carer will now be permitted to attend.

The guidance can be accessed here.
