Wisdom Conversations UK helps speakers of other languages to learn to speak English more fluently through having face-to-face & one-to-one & group conversations with native speakers.
They also aim to reduce social isolation and help people with dementia to slow down the progression of their illness.
Their native speakers are mostly elderly people. In this project they feel valued and less lonely because they help English learners to speak the language more fluently, giving them a sense of purpose and making their brain more active.
The English learners are also trained about dementia, which will raise awareness and perhaps even help inspire new ideas for preventing the illness.
They are based in Leeds. Their group conversations will take place in Little London Community Centre.
This activity will also enable elderly people to have chance to meet like minded others.
They are working in cooperation with Migrant Access Project by Leeds City Council, charities and educational institutions.
Wisdom Conversations UK will grow as a community interest company.
