Community organisations across Leeds are being invited to apply for funding to help raise awareness of high blood pressure and deliver blood pressure testing within local communities.

The funding aims to support organisations that can reach people who may be at higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease or who face barriers to accessing health services.

Applications from a broad range of organisations are encouraged, including charities, community groups, faith organisations, sports clubs and grassroots organisations.

What Is the Funding For?

Funding is available for projects that:

  • Raise awareness of high blood pressure
  • Deliver community-based blood pressure testing
  • Help people understand their cardiovascular health
  • Reach communities most at risk of undiagnosed high blood pressure
  • Support people to access appropriate health services and advice

Collaborative applications between community organisations and Primary Care Networks (PCNs) are also welcomed.

Priority Communities

Priority will be given to projects that reach:

  • People living in deprived communities
  • Smokers
  • People living with obesity
  • Black African communities
  • African Caribbean communities
  • South Asian communities
  • Men
  • Adults aged 30 to 65

Priority Areas

Applications are particularly encouraged from organisations working within:

  • Seacroft
  • York Road
  • HATCH (Chapeltown and Burmantofts, Harehills and Richmond Hill)
  • Cross Gates
  • LS25 and LS26

City-wide projects that focus on the priority groups are also encouraged.

Why This Matters

High blood pressure often has no symptoms but can significantly increase the risk of heart disease, stroke and other serious health conditions.

Community organisations play an important role in reaching people where they live, work and socialise. By delivering awareness raising and testing in trusted community settings, organisations can help identify people who may need further support while improving health outcomes across Leeds.
