Loneliness and social isolation can affect people of all ages and backgrounds. Across Leeds, a number of organisations provide befriending services that help people stay connected, build confidence and access support within their communities.

Whether you are looking for support for yourself or someone you know, or you are interested in volunteering, there are several opportunities available.

Why Befriending Matters

A regular conversation, friendly visit or weekly phone call can make a significant difference to someone’s wellbeing.

Befriending services help people:

  • Feel more connected to their community
  • Reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation
  • Build confidence and independence
  • Access local activities and support networks
  • Improve overall wellbeing

For volunteers, befriending offers a practical way to support others while gaining experience, developing new skills and making new connections.
