A new project is underway across West Yorkshire to better understand women’s experiences of first-time breast screening invitations, with the aim of improving uptake and making services work better for all communities.
The work is being delivered by Caja and commissioned by NHS England, with local oversight from Sarah McMurray, Screening and Immunisations Place Lead.
What the project is focusing on
The project is gathering insight from women aged 47–53, who are typically invited for breast screening for the first time. It explores:
-
What helps women attend breast screening
-
What can make attendance more difficult
-
How breast screening services and communications could be improved
Insight is being collected through a short online survey, with some participants also taking part in optional light-touch group discussions or one-to-one sessions.
The findings will be used to develop practical recommendations for the NHS, helping breast screening services and communications better reflect women’s real-life experiences, particularly for communities that are currently underserved.
Who the survey is for
-
Women aged 47–53 living in West Yorkshire
-
Those who have been invited for breast screening, whether or not they attended
VCSE organisations, community groups and GP practices can play an important role by helping to share the survey with people who may be eligible.
