Leeds Recovery College offers free courses and workshops to help people learn more about mental health and develop practical ways to support their wellbeing.
Courses are open to adults (18+) who live, work or study in Leeds, including carers, family members and friends.
What is the Recovery College
The Recovery College provides learning, not treatment.
You do not need a referral, diagnosis or to be using mental health services to take part. Courses are designed to sit alongside any support you may already have, or as a starting point if you are exploring ways to improve your wellbeing.
Sessions are interactive and discussion-based, giving people the chance to share ideas, learn from others and try out tools that can be used in everyday life.
Each course is co-led by people with lived experience of mental health challenges alongside professionals and wellbeing practitioners.
What to expect
Courses take place in community venues across Leeds rather than clinical settings. Groups are kept small to support participation and create a welcoming environment.
You can choose the courses that interest you and are encouraged to attend most sessions where possible.
At the start of each course, participants agree on how the group will work together. This usually includes listening respectfully, sharing only what feels comfortable and keeping personal stories private.
If attending alone feels difficult, you can bring a friend, carer or support worker. They will need to register and take part in the course as well.
Why this matters
Recovery Colleges take an education-based approach to mental health. Rather than focusing on treatment, they support people to build knowledge, confidence and skills to live well.
This approach is part of a wider recovery movement that recognises people can live meaningful lives alongside mental health challenges.
Leeds Recovery College is part of Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and works with facilitators from across the city, including people with lived experience, health and care staff and community organisations.
