Organisations across West Yorkshire are being invited to take advantage of a free workplace wellbeing programme designed to help staff build healthier habits through walking.

Delivered by Living Streets and fully funded by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA) until March 2027, Walking Works supports organisations to embed walking into the working day, improving physical health, mental wellbeing and social connection among staff.

Whether you’re a charity, community organisation, public sector body or business, the programme offers practical support to help create a healthier workplace culture.

What’s available?

The free programme includes:

  • Workplace walking challenges
  • Walk Champion Training
  • Resources to encourage everyday walking
  • Practical support to help organisations embed walking into workplace wellbeing initiatives

Walking can improve physical health, boost mood, reduce stress and create opportunities for colleagues to connect during the working day.

As one participant said:

“Walking supports my mental and physical health – everything feels better after a walk. I regularly take breaks during the day to get fresh air and when I’m at home, I walk at lunchtime or straight after work.”

Become a Walk Champion

Individuals who would like to encourage walking within their organisation can register for the next Walk Champion Training session taking place on:

Tuesday 11 August 2026

The training equips staff with practical ideas and resources to help colleagues build walking into their working day.
