How is personal data used and linked in research and public services? And how should this be explained clearly to the public?

We’re inviting members of the public to take part in a series of three online workshops to explore these questions.

What’s involved?

Participants will:

  • Attend three online workshops (1 hour each)

  • Complete around 30 minutes of pre-reading before each session

  • Receive £150 in eVouchers in total as a thank you for their time

The workshops will take place from 6pm to 7pm on:

  • Workshop 1 – What is Data?
    20 April 2026

  • Workshop 2 – What is Data Linkage?
    11 May 2026

  • Workshop 3 – What Happens When Things Go Wrong?
    15 June 2026

Who can take part?

The workshops are open to anyone who:

  • Is aged 18 or over

  • Is based in the UK

  • Can attend all three sessions

  • Has an interest in how personal data is used and linked

No prior knowledge of data is needed.

Why take part?

This is an opportunity to:

  • Learn how linked data is used to shape research and public services

  • Share your views and experiences

  • Help shape best practice in how researchers communicate about data linkage

Your input will help improve how organisations explain the use of personal data in ways that are clear, transparent and trustworthy.

How to express your interest

If you would like to take part, please complete the short expression of interest form and provide your email address.

The form will close on 24 March 2026.
Applicants will be contacted by 31 March 2026 to confirm whether they have a place.

As spaces are limited, a few additional questions are included in the form. This is to help ensure a diverse mix of participants with different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives.
