Professionals across health, care, employment and the sector are being invited to contribute to new research exploring hearing loss, employment and wellbeing.
Susan Coan, a Research Fellow at Leeds Beckett University, is currently undertaking PhD research focused on the experiences of people who lose their hearing during working age adulthood and the wider impact this can have on health, wellbeing and employment.
The first phase of the research involved speaking directly with people who had experienced hearing loss as adults. The next stage is bringing together professionals from a range of sectors to discuss the findings so far, explore what support currently exists, and identify where improvements could be made.
The discussions are open to professionals who support, or could support, people with hearing loss in relation to employment and day-to-day life. This includes people working across the NHS, Third Sector, local authority, employment support, occupational health, HR, Access to Work and related services.
Sessions will take place either in central Leeds or online via Microsoft Teams. Participants will hear key findings from the research and take part in a confidential group discussion focused on improving support for people with hearing loss to remain in employment.
No preparation is required, and a short summary of the research will be shared in advance.
