Volunteers’ Week takes place from 2 to 8 June and is an opportunity to recognise the thousands of people who give their time, skills and energy to support communities across Leeds.
Every day, volunteers help make Leeds a healthier, more connected and more inclusive city. They support community organisations, charities, neighbourhood groups, sports clubs, cultural events, health services and local projects. Their contribution strengthens communities, reduces isolation, and helps organisations deliver services that would otherwise be impossible.
Volunteering also benefits the people who take part. It can help build confidence, develop skills, create new friendships and provide opportunities to contribute to causes that matter.
Finding Volunteering Opportunities in Leeds
There are hundreds of volunteering opportunities available across the city, ranging from one-off events to longer-term roles.

The Role of Volunteers Across Leeds
Volunteers contribute to almost every part of city life.
They help support older people, young people, people experiencing poor mental health, refugees and asylum seekers, sports programmes, environmental projects, community events and neighbourhood activities.
Opportunities exist across a wide range of organisations including health services, community groups, environmental projects, arts organisations and charities. Volunteers can support everything from practical conservation work and community events to befriending, administration, mentoring and governance roles.
Volunteering and Wellbeing
Research consistently shows that volunteering can have positive benefits for wellbeing. It can help people stay connected, learn new skills, gain experience and feel part of their community.
This year’s Volunteers’ Week also coincides with Leeds Wellbeing Week, which runs from 1 to 7 June and includes a range of activities and events taking place across the city.
Thinking About Volunteering?
Whether you can offer a few hours a month or make a longer-term commitment, there are opportunities available across Leeds to suit different interests, skills and circumstances.
Volunteers continue to play a vital role in helping Leeds communities thrive. During Volunteers’ Week, we would like to thank everyone who gives their time to support others and make a difference across the city.
