Leeds Winter Coat Appeal 2024–25

Zero Waste Leeds
has launched this year’s Leeds Winter Coat Appeal – a citywide effort to collect and share good-quality second-hand coats with people who need them. The appeal helps families stay warm, saves money, and reduces clothing waste across Leeds.

Last year, the appeal supported thousands of local families, distributing over 7,600 items of winter clothing and saving households more than £144,000 in total. With living costs still high, this community-led initiative makes a real difference.

How it works

  • Donate a good-quality winter coat, hat, scarf, or gloves between 21 October 2024 and 31 January 2025.

  • Collect a free coat from 4 November 2024 to 28 February 2025.

  • You can find your nearest drop-off and collection points on the Zero Waste Leeds website:

Why it matters
Around 30% of clothing in UK wardrobes goes unworn each year. Donating unused winter items is an easy way to help others, support sustainability, and keep resources in the local community.

Zero Waste Leeds is also inviting local businesses and volunteers to get involved — by collecting coats, helping with sorting, or spreading the word.

If your organisation would like to support the appeal, email [email protected] to find out more.
