The Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector plays a vital role in ensuring the benefits of devolution reach people and communities across West Yorkshire.
To strengthen that voice at a regional level, the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, Local Authorities and place-based Local Infrastructure Organisations are working together to establish a new West Yorkshire VCSE Advisory Group.
This group will act as advocates, champions and ambassadors for the VCSE sector, helping to shape regional priorities and decision-making.
What will the Advisory Group do?
The Advisory Group will serve as the VCSE sector’s strategic point of contact with the Mayor of West Yorkshire, Tracy Brabin, and the West Yorkshire Combined Authority.
Its work will focus on key regional ambitions, including:

An integrated transport system that works for our region

A regional economy that delivers inclusive growth

Tackling the climate emergency and supporting a net zero carbon region

Creating safe, cohesive and thriving communities
Who can apply?
The call is open to dynamic and forward-looking VCSE leaders from across West Yorkshire who are keen to represent the wider sector, not just their own organisation.
The Advisory Group will include representatives working alongside the region’s five Local Infrastructure Organisations:
Voluntary Action Leeds
Third Sector Leaders Kirklees
Community Action Bradford & District
Voluntary & Community Calderdale
Nova Wakefield District
There are 13 places in total, made up of provider and thematic representatives.
Roles available
Provider representatives (5 places)
One additional representative from each West Yorkshire district. You might be leading a neighbourhood-based community group, co-operative or social enterprise. Those with experience or interest in areas such as community transport or other Combined Authority policy areas are particularly encouraged to apply.
Thematic representatives (3 pan–West Yorkshire places)
These roles focus on specific areas of expertise:

Funding – aligning and maximising VCSE funding and investment

Equalities – experience in inclusion, access and working with minoritised communities

Community wellbeing – knowledge of wellbeing, community safety, cohesion, or poverty and deprivation
What is expected?
Members of the Advisory Group will be expected to:

Act as ambassadors and advocates for the VCSE sector

Champion equity, diversity and inclusion
-
Attend a minimum of three out of four quarterly meetings
-
Maintain strong links with VCSE partners and share insight both ways

Co-design a shared work programme with the Combined Authority

Uphold high standards of integrity and manage conflicts of interest
The Group will not be involved in commissioning or funding decisions.
Support available
Membership is voluntary. However, a package of support will be available to enable participation. This includes mentoring and training opportunities, particularly for early-stage leaders with strong potential.
