Free communication skills training is available for staff working across health and care in Leeds, with places currently open on the next Better Conversations Interactive Skills Session taking place on Tuesday 30 June 2026, from 9:30am to 12:30pm.

Delivered through the Leeds Health and Care Academy, the training is designed to help people build confidence in everyday conversations and develop practical communication skills that can support work across a wide range of health and care roles.

The wider Communication Skills Training offer includes both online and face-to-face learning opportunities, including:

  • Introducing the Principles of Better Conversations (eLearning)
  • Better Conversation Interactive Skills Session
  • Introduction to Facilitation Skills
  • Introduction to Coaching
  • Motivational Interviewing

Feedback from previous participants highlights the impact the training can have in practice:

“I have learnt a lot about how a positive conversation can have an impact on someone’s life.”

“This has been an exceptional training tool. It has really caused me to reflect more and consider different styles of questions.”

The training is open to staff working across the Leeds health and care system and may be particularly useful for VCSE organisations supporting people through community-based services, wellbeing support, engagement work and frontline delivery.
