Burmantofts Community Friends (BCF) has shared some positive news about an expansion of its area of work, following discussions with partners and commissioners.
From January 2026, BCF will begin supporting older residents in parts of Harehills and Nowells, extending its reach beyond its existing boundary in Burmantofts.
What’s changing?
After conversations with Leeds City Council Adults and Health Team and fellow Neighbourhood Network organisation Action for Gipton Elderly, BCF has agreed a revised boundary to better reflect local geography and need.
As a simple guide, the new boundary will run up to Harehills Lane. When joining Harehills Lane from York Road, areas on the left-hand side of the road will now be supported by Burmantofts Community Friends.
This change means BCF will be able to reach and support more older people in the community, particularly those who may benefit from neighbourhood-based services and local connections.
A collaborative approach
The boundary change forms part of a collaborative agreement between BCF and Action for Gipton Elderly, supported by commissioners. Funding arrangements have been realigned to better match community needs, helping both organisations focus their efforts where they are most needed.
As part of this transition, staff from both organisations will continue to work closely together to ensure continuity of support for older residents.
