The Leeds Health and Care Academy is offering free access to Motivational Interviewing training for people working in health and care roles across Leeds.

Two study days will take place on 21 and 22 April 2026 at Merrion House, providing an opportunity to develop practical skills that support prevention, early intervention and positive behaviour change.

Why Motivational Interviewing matters

As Leeds continues to move towards a model of proactive neighbourhood health, there is an increasing focus on prevention, early intervention and supporting people to make sustainable changes to their health and wellbeing.

Motivational Interviewing is an evidence-based style of communication that works with people to explore what matters to them. It helps individuals become more engaged in their care, supports informed decision-making, and enables progress where people may previously have felt stuck.

This approach has been shown to be effective across a wide range of settings, including:

  • Health and social care

  • Criminal justice services

  • Education and community services
