Funded SafeTALK Suicide Prevention Training for Leeds Third Sector and Community Groups
Funded SafeTALK training is available for third-sector organisations and community groups supporting people across Leeds.
If you work or volunteer with people in the city and want to feel more confident recognising and responding to suicide risk, this practical three-hour training offers accessible, evidence-informed skills that can make a real difference.
Why this matters
Suicide prevention is a shared responsibility across the health, care and community system.
Many people at risk of suicide are already in contact with services, charities, faith groups, community hubs or local support organisations. Often, it is frontline staff and volunteers — not specialist mental health teams — who first notice when something isn’t right.
SafeTALK is designed to equip people in these roles with the confidence and practical tools to respond appropriately.
This training supports Leeds’ wider suicide prevention ambitions and strengthens the capacity of the VCSE sector to play its role in early identification and support.
What is SafeTALK?
SafeTALK is a half-day, in-person course suitable for anyone who may come into contact with individuals at risk of suicide, either through their professional role or personal life.
The course focuses on helping participants to:
-
Recognise when someone may be at risk of suicide
-
Ask clearly and directly about thoughts of suicide
-
Listen in a calm and supportive way
-
Connect individuals at risk to appropriate local sources of help
It is practical, interactive and designed to be relevant to real-world situations faced by staff and volunteers.
