About the programme

Seasons of Culture 2026 focuses on how creativity can help people connect with the natural environment while responding to wider challenges around climate, biodiversity and wellbeing.

The programme encourages activity in spaces such as parks, woodlands, rivers, canals and community gardens, with a strong emphasis on participation and community engagement.

It is part of Leeds’ broader cultural approach to supporting nature recovery, encouraging active travel and creating more inclusive access to outdoor spaces.

What the funding supports

Projects should use arts and culture to:

  • Encourage communities to engage with green and blue spaces
  • Promote environmental awareness and nature recovery
  • Support active travel such as walking and cycling
  • Explore themes including biodiversity, sustainability and climate resilience

This could include performances, exhibitions, participatory events, storytelling or creative workshops.

Indoor projects can also be supported where there is a clear connection to nature.

Applications are open to:

  • Voluntary and community groups based in Leeds

Applicants can submit more than one proposal, but only one project per organisation will be funded.

Important to know

  • A minimum of 10% match funding is required
  • Projects must minimise impact on habitats and wildlife
  • Permissions must be secured for use of public or private spaces
  • Projects must take place between July and November 2026
