The Common Ground Award has been launched by the UK Government to recognise and invest in organisations across England that strengthen the bonds between communities.

These bonds – often built and sustained by the voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector – are vital to tackling issues such as social isolation, division and declining trust. The award celebrates organisations that bring people together and promote understanding across different groups and communities.

What the award supports

Successful organisations will be recognised for work that builds bridging social capital, helping people connect across boundaries of background, belief, or experience. Awardees will also be invited to join a national community of practice, sharing learning with others and contributing to wider conversations about social cohesion.

Funding available

Organisations can apply for capital grants of up to £10,000 to support projects that improve or expand facilities that foster connection.
In exceptional cases, applications up to £50,000 may be considered for projects with a strong justification and high assessment score.

Capital funding can be used for:

  • New builds or refurbishments that bring people together

  • Expanding community facilities

  • Essential equipment, such as laptops or furniture, that help sustain shared spaces
