Researchers at York St John University are inviting older adults from Southern African and SADC communities living in the UK to take part in a series of relaxed community conversations exploring healthy ageing in a digital world.
The project is being led by OT-Connect at York St John University and focuses on how digital and AI-enabled technologies affect people’s ability to age well, remain independent and stay connected to their communities.
The research is specifically looking to hear from adults aged 60+ from Southern African backgrounds, including people connected to communities from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia, Mozambique, Angola, Malawi, Lesotho and Eswatini.
The sessions will use a World Café format, creating an informal space where people can share experiences, perspectives and ideas around ageing, technology, independence and community life.
No previous experience with digital technology is needed and researchers are keen to hear from people with a wide range of experiences, including those who may not regularly use digital devices.

Participants will receive:
- a £25 gift voucher
- reimbursement of travel costs or arranged transport support
- a light South African-style buffet
- the option to bring a friend, family member, carer or interpreter
The organisers hope the conversations will help shape future health and social care services and ensure the voices of older Southern African communities are represented in future discussions around technology, ageing and wellbeing.
