Across Leeds and West Yorkshire, there’s growing recognition that arts and creativity do more than entertain, they support health, connection and community wellbeing.
Creative Health work is now part of strategic conversations at the city and regional levels. Organisations including the Leeds Arts Health and Wellbeing Network (LAHWN), Voluntary Action Leeds, the West Yorkshire Creative Health Programme and Forum Central are working with partners across health, culture and community sectors to understand, strengthen and embed creative activity as part of broader health and care systems. This builds on research like the Creative Health in Leeds report and its summary, which captures what creative health activities do for people in Leeds and sets out recommendations for future action (LAHWN/Forum Central/VAL).
As part of this ongoing work, our new survey is seeking local insight into how Leeds’ art galleries contribute to wellbeing and where opportunities could be strengthened.
Share your views on galleries and wellbeing
Whether you visit galleries regularly or occasionally, we want to hear from you. Your views will help shape local understanding of how creative spaces contribute to health, belonging, and community connection.
Why your input matters
-
It ties into citywide creative health strategy conversations and evidence gathering across Leeds and West Yorkshire. Creative Health is increasingly recognised not just as culture, but as a contributor to healthier lives and stronger communities. Work is underway to build a West Yorkshire Creative Health strategy involving regional partners, including VCSE organisations, universities and health services (regional work referenced).
-
The LAHWN Creative Health in Leeds report maps creative health assets and highlights both strengths and challenges in the city’s creative health ecosystem (data from LAHWN report).
Your perspective adds to this picture from the public and community side and helps partners understand where galleries are supporting wellbeing most, and where they might be able to do more.
