This Introduction to Domestic Energy Efficiency webinar provides a practical overview of how energy is used in the home and how householders can improve efficiency while maintaining a warm and comfortable living environment.

The session is designed for frontline staff and volunteers who provide advice or support to people experiencing, or at risk of, fuel poverty.

Who Is This Webinar For?

This course is aimed at frontline staff who:

  • Give energy efficiency advice

  • Support people affected by fuel poverty

  • Work in advice services, housing, local authorities, or community organisations

Funded places are available for eligible non-commercial organisations based in England and Wales.

Course Aim

The webinar provides a basic introduction to domestic energy efficiency, helping frontline workers understand:

  • How energy is used in the home

  • Where energy is commonly wasted

  • Practical ways householders can reduce costs without compromising comfort

The aim is to increase confidence when giving clear, accurate and practical energy advice.

What the Course Covers

During the session, participants will:

  • Learn how energy is used in the home

  • Identify common heating systems and appliances

  • Understand basic heating controls, including:

    • Room thermostats

    • TRVs

    • Storage heaters

    • Programmers

  • Explore how heat is lost and how insulation can help

  • Identify ways to reduce electricity use and hot water costs

  • Learn about sources of advice and financial support

This includes an overview of schemes such as:

  • Warm Home Discount Scheme

  • Winter Fuel Payment

  • Cold Weather Payment

  • Priority Services Register

  • Affordable Warmth Obligation
