People across Leeds are being invited to come together this July to celebrate Disability Pride Month at a free community event hosted by Scope Leeds Community Hub.
Taking place on Wednesday 22 July from 11am to 2pm, the event will bring together disabled people, allies, community organisations and professionals for a day of conversation, learning and celebration.
Disability Pride Month is celebrated throughout July and provides an opportunity to recognise the creativity, resilience and achievements of disabled people, while also highlighting the barriers that continue to affect disabled communities. It is a chance to celebrate disabled identity, challenge negative attitudes and promote greater inclusion across society.
Hosted by Scope’s Leeds Community Hub, the event will include:
• Speakers sharing lived experience
• Interactive workshops
• Opportunities to connect with others
• Discussions about disability, inclusion and accessibility
• Space for reflection, learning and community action
Organisers hope the event will encourage positive conversations about disability while helping to build a more accessible and inclusive Leeds.
Why Disability Pride Matters
Disability Pride Month is not simply a celebration. It is also about visibility, representation and recognising disability as a natural part of human diversity.
Across the UK, Disability Pride Month is used to challenge stigma, amplify disabled voices and encourage organisations, communities and individuals to think about how barriers can be removed so that everyone can participate equally.
Disability Pride Activity Across Leeds
The Leeds event forms part of a wider programme of Disability Pride activity taking place across the city and nationally throughout July.
Scope’s Leeds Community Hub has been working with local disabled people to shape Disability Pride activities and events, helping ensure they are led by disabled voices and lived experience.
Leeds also has a growing history of disability pride activity and disability-led campaigning, with local organisations continuing to create opportunities for disabled people to connect, share experiences and influence change.
The event also takes place just days after Leeds Pride 2026, which will be held on 18 and 19 July and is expected to attract thousands of people to the city centre in a celebration of visibility, inclusion and community.
