A new Inclusion Health data and intelligence resource for England has been published, bringing together key national data to support more informed, inclusive decision-making at a local level.
The interactive resource is a collaborative project led by the Department of Health and Social Care and developed with partners including Office for Health Improvement and Disparities, UK Health Security Agency and NHS England, alongside representatives from local government, Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) and the VCSE sector.
Its purpose is to support professionals to better understand inclusion health needs, develop tailored local responses, and strengthen work aligned to the 10 Year Health Plan for England and the emerging integrated neighbourhood health offer.
What the resource includes
The resource brings together existing published statistics in one place, supported by a clear narrative explaining why inclusion health matters across systems and services. By consolidating data that is already in the public domain, it makes it easier to access, interpret and use in local planning and delivery.
The inclusion health populations covered include people experiencing homelessness; Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities; sex workers; migrants in vulnerable circumstances; people subject to modern slavery; people in contact with the justice system; and people experiencing drug and/or alcohol dependence.
Who it’s for
The resource is aimed at professionals working across local authorities, including public health teams and wider council services, as well as NHS commissioners and providers, police and probation services, and VCSE organisations. It is intended to support shared understanding and encourage more joined-up, collaborative action across organisations and sectors at a local level.
Additional tools coming soon
Alongside this publication, further practical resources are being developed and will be shared shortly. These include a self-assessment tool based on the National Framework for NHS Action on Inclusion Health, a safeguarding self-assessment tool, a tool to support improved local service delivery for inclusion health groups, a slide set outlining opportunities to embed inclusion health within the new system landscape, and further promotion of the updated Health Equity Assessment Tool.
Why this matters
Inclusion health groups often face the poorest health outcomes and the greatest barriers to accessing services. Having reliable, accessible data in one place supports more equitable planning, commissioning and delivery, and helps ensure that inclusion health remains a shared priority across local systems.
This new resource provides a useful starting point for organisations and partnerships looking to strengthen their approach to inclusion health at a local level.
