International Day of Disabled People (IDODP)

Celebrated globally every year on 3 December and recognised by the British Government as an important part of UK Disability Policy. The aim of the celebration day is to promote greater understanding of disability issues and mobilise support for the rights and wellbeing of Disabled people. It supports the recognition of all the learning, optimism and action that takes place annually throughout communities.

Forum Central has celebrated IDODP since 2019 in collaboration with The Equality Hub at Leeds City Council and our strong third sector partners in the city, with the Leeds for All working group being set up in 2021 to coordinate a city-wide event.

Our annual event brings together disability led organisations and advocacy groups to network and showcase their services to individuals, other professionals in the sector and the public, helping to pave the way towards a pan-disability community in Leeds.

The overall aims of the events are to bring people together to make new connections and strengthen existing relationships and also more importantly to raise awareness and collaboration around disability challenges and solutions.

Our IDODP events help to give recognition to the on-going work of organisations in making Leeds a more inclusive place for everyone and give an opportunity for people to hear what each other are doing in the sector, especially people with lived experience.
