This year’s IDOP theme is “The part we play,” which aims to celebrate the integral role of older people in our communities. The event will be held at the South Stand of Headingley Stadium and is a partnership between Leeds Older People’s Forum, Leeds Rhinos Foundation and Leeds City Council.

Poster for the International Day of Older People event, hosted by Matt Jameson from Out Together, on Tuesday, 1st October, from 11 am to 2 pm at AMT Headingley Stadium, South Stand Concourse, St Michael’s Lane, Leeds LS6 3BR. The left side of the poster features an illustration of a smiling older woman with grey hair, large purple glasses, and earrings, with text that reads 'International Day of Older People' and the tagline 'The part we play – Celebrating the integral role of older people in our communities.' The right side of the poster provides event details, including entertainment from The Performance Ensemble, Ascendance, Silver Swans, Music from the Attic, Medusa Has Been, and Irish Arts Foundation. Talks include speakers from Bramley Walking Wanderers Football team, Hamara, Professor Alice O'Grady, Matt Jameson, and Annie Cochrane from LUFC. The event will feature over 30 Age Friendly Stalls, a pop-up tea bar, and a free gift bag for the first 100 attendees. Free parking is available at Car Park E and F. Logos for Age Friendly Leeds, Leeds Rhinos, Leeds City Council, and other organisations appear at the bottom.

The event’s goal is to celebrate the vast contributions of older people, find new opportunities, and connect with the Leeds Age-Friendly community.

Internet sensation and ambassador of Out Together Matt Jameson will be the host, and the event will run from 11 am to 2.30 pm on the 1 of October. The venue is accessible with level floor access, lifts, accessible toilets and changing places. Car Parking is FREE, and blue badge and minibus parking are also available.  There will be designated quiet spaces and additional seating, additional waymarking and volunteers will be available to signpost people. Programmes will be handed out on arrival and prompts for activities and sessions will be announced.

This IDOP event will showcase the creative roles that older people play in our marketplace of age-friendly stalls, taster sessions, talks, skills shops, and entertainment.

Roger Harrington (trustee at Leeds Older People’s Forum and member of The Performance Ensemble) will be delivering the opening speech, Professor Alice O’Grady will be hosting a talk on her research on older performers in burlesque, followed by a performance by Medusa Has Been. There are also dance tasters/performances from The Performance Ensemble, Ascendance, a behind-the-scenes stadium tour at 1 pm and a pop-up Rose’s Tea Bar from local Neighbourhood Network OWLS Leeds. More exciting things are being added, which will be included in the flyer when it’s ready! If you would like to offer a performance or get involved, please contact [email protected] or [email protected]

Age-Friendly Stall Requests

We have 35 places for free project and organisation stalls in the ‘marketplace’. As everyone knows, these go fast! We want projects and organisations that represent the theme of the parts older people play. We want to see stalls with older workers, volunteers and people who use the services or are members, not just professionals!

Would you like a stall at this event? There is no stall charge. We have 20 tables but room for more stalls if you can bring your own. We ask that stallholders ensure their stall is set up for 10.30 am with a view to the event opening at 11 am and that their stall has representation until 2.30 pm.

If you would like to register interest for a stall, please follow the link below to complete the form. You will receive a confirmation email if you have been accepted. I will be sending out all the required information on access/set-up to confirmed stall holders in a few weeks.
