Living Potential, based near Wetherby, is setting up a Community Garden to support volunteers. They are open to referrals for adults experiencing low confidence, anxiety, depression or social isolation to volunteer and receive informal support on site from the Living Potential therapeutic team.

They are restoring an 1850s Walled Garden back to its former glory and in doing so, will be creating a safe, social and inclusive space for volunteers. They will be providing fresh, affordable and healthy fruit and vegetables to the local community.

Who are our sessions suitable for?

Their volunteering sessions are suitable for everyone (aged 18 and over). In particular, adults experiencing low confidence, anxiety, depression or social isolation are very welcome to use the space alongside Living Potential’s therapeutic and highly skilled staff. Referrals for other conditions and situations will also be reviewed on a case by case basis, including people impacted by bereavement, trauma, a variety of mental health problems and those in recovery from addiction.

What will a typical day look like?

No one day will be the same, and will change with the seasons and weather. Volunteers will get their hands dirty through a wide variety of tasks; from erecting polytunnels, digging beds, right through to sowing seeds and picking vegetables. And a lot of weeding!

Volunteers are encouraged to do tasks that they enjoy and feel able to do before moving on to learn how to undertake new tasks.

There will always be refreshments, cake and a social lunch for volunteers.
