Independent Age, a national charity working with older people in financial hardship, is currently conducting a campaign advocating for fairer water bills and improved support for individuals facing financial challenges.
The organisation aims to gather individuals’ experiences with water bills to present directly to water companies. They are seeking responses to specific questions and any other relevant experiences that individuals may have:
- Have you had any issues with your water bills or water company?
- Have you had to cut back on water use at all?
- What impact would it have on you if water bills increased or if you were unable to afford them?
- What kind of support do you think water companies should provide to customers struggling with bills?

All answers will be anonymous. Once the collection of water bill experiences is complete, they will be delivered directly to Yorkshire Water headquarters. Independent Age plans to display the quotes as a patchwork to visually emphasise the inconsistent, patchy support that water companies provide.
The goal is to ensure that water companies adequately support older people and anyone facing challenges with their bills with the help of the community.
