The West Yorkshire and Harrogate Cancer Alliance has opened applications for its Innovation Award Scheme 2025/26, with funding available to support VCSE-led early cancer diagnosis activity.
This year’s scheme aligns with the local Early Diagnosis Strategy and the priority areas set out in the 2025/26 Cancer Alliance Planning Pack, with a focus on reducing health inequalities and supporting earlier presentation, timely access to primary care, local innovation and screening.

Who can apply
VCSE organisations may submit:

joint proposals involving more than one VCSE organisation
VCSE early diagnosis focus
To help shape proposals for 2025/26, applications are expected to align with at least one of the following areas:

Community events that raise awareness of the early signs and symptoms of cancer

Practical interventions that help improve early diagnosis rates, while learning more about the barriers and challenges communities face
-
Activity that supports earlier cancer diagnosis for people at higher risk of later-stage detection
What will not be funded
The scheme will not fund:

Posts or commissioning of third-party organisations

Extensions of previously funded Cancer Alliance Innovation Award projects

Applications from teams that have not demonstrated delivery of innovation projects previously funded through earlier Cancer Alliance Innovation Award rounds

Additional funding opportunity
There is also a separate £120,000 funding pot available to Places, which VCSE organisations may be able to explore in partnership with other organisations such as Primary Care Networks, GP practices and acute settings.
