Forum Central and Third Sector Leeds have been working the Conservation Volunteers (TCV) and Groundwork to establish a third sector led network of organisations whose work is focused around outdoor spaces and outdoor activities.
Setup early in 2021, Leeds Green Activity Provider (LGAP) Network is a third sector led network of organisations whose work is focused around outdoor spaces and outdoor activities.
LGAP was formed following a recognition that third sector organisations operating in outdoor spaces in Leeds are delivering a broad range of activities which help tackle health inequalities; but, prior to the formation of the network, there was limited opportunity to coordinate that broad offer with the established health and care system.
The LGAP network welcomes organisations, large and small, delivering a broad array of outdoor activities: walking, running or cycling; practical conservation, food growing and climate change or environmental activism. Members include environmental specialist and health organisations who run outdoor non-sport programmes.
Using funding from Forum Central the network currently holds in person and virtual meetings approximately four times per year around key priorities identified by members. The network has also held events for link workers from Linking Leeds (Linking Leeds – Social prescribing for practical or emotional problems) and created a map of or activities.
In 2021 LGAP secured funding for delivery of a number of health and care projects, with TCV acting as the fund holder and the work delivered by Hyde Park Source, Lemon Balm and Groundwork.
Moving forward, the network is undertaking a research and development project from August 2022 to March 2023, do look out for updates.
