Re-engage are celebrating the one-year anniversary of their Rainbow Call Companions, which is a UK-wide service specifically for people aged 75+ who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans or otherwise part of the LGBTQ+ community.

A Rainbow Call Companion will match the older person with a volunteer who is also LGBT+ and will make a phone call once a week (or however often both people choose). It has been described as “a chance to meet someone who speaks the same language as me”.

How do I refer someone to the service?

If you know of anyone who you believe would benefit, you can refer directly online here: Find a rainbow call companion: LGBT+ phone befriending (reengage.org.uk)

More info

LGBT+ people are statistically more likely to live alone at a later age and are less likely to reach out for help, or to know where to go when they need someone to talk to authentically. This does mean that the community is very tough to reach and to support.
